We have a busy programme of tree related events and courses and family activities planned for 2023. Here’s a taster of What’s On in February and March. Please keep checking the website, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us @yorksarboretum for regular updates. We look forward to welcoming you to the arboretum soon.
Coffee Morning for Members
To get the season off to a good start we’re having a Welcome Back Coffee Morning for Members on Tues 14 Feb (sold out) and Thurs 16 Feb, 11am – 12pm. Join the team for coffee, cake, and a chat. There will be a short tour of the arboretum for members afterwards (wellies advisable!). If you would like to attend the coffee morning, please book your place here. We would love to see you!
Lesley Williams Exhibition
‘At the Margins’ a new exhibition by local artist Lesley Williams is on display at the Visitor Centre from Saturday 4 - 26 March, with a special preview event on Friday 3 March 6 – 8pm. Lesley’s semi-abstract oil paintings, including works featuring aspects of the arboretum, reveal the translucent colours found in gardens and the wider landscape. She explores spatial dynamics as well as the reflective qualities of water within plant forms. Lesley encourages the viewer to look through and beyond the immediate surface. Items from the collection will be available for sale. If you would like to attend the preview please reserve your place here. It’s an opportunity to meet the artist and find out more about her work.
Tree Health Centre Courses
Our tree related courses and events are designed to appeal to all audiences – everyone is welcome. We start the season with Tree Identification: Winter Trees on Thursday 9 February and Trees for Your Garden: Best Start for Planting on Thursday 23 March. Both courses are led by John Grimshaw. There’s lots more to come so do keep checking the website and we’ll publish new dates each month via the newsletter.
Garden Talks
We’re pleased to announce a new series of evening Garden Talks at the Yorkshire Arboretum. These will be held monthly throughout the spring and autumn, in the Peter Sowerby Building. We have an exciting line up including an opportunity to hear from Teresa Clements, former Secretary of the Wakefield and North of England Tulip Society, and now Chair of the RHS Bulbous Plants Committee, about the beautifully coloured, fragile rarities that are English Tulips at the first event of the year, on Thursday 9 March.
For further information about any of the events featured here please email visit@yorkshirearboretum.org or call 01653 648598 to speak to a member of the team.
