Our exhibitions in 2025 begin with ‘Natural Splendour’ by June Hardy. June is a local Yorkshire artist based at Nether Poppleton, just outside York, and has been painting since 2005. Prior to then, she considered herself to be creative with many differing crafts as well as teaching art to young children for several years.
Since taking early retirement, she has exhibited and sold her work widely with York Open Studios, York Art Society and several galleries. For 12 years she chaired the very successful exhibition of work by Poppleton and District artists known as Art in the Barn and continues to exhibit there.
She has developed her own style using graphic, linear images and blocks of solid colour. Her preferred medium is acryl gouache which suits this style but she also enjoys working with mixed media.
June has found all the trees studied for this exhibition, to be fascinating and different. The final piece in the series was a drawing done en plein air at the Arboretum and completed in the studio from photographs. This monochrome painting in gouache was completed in blues. (see below).
For a chance to meet the artist, please feel free to join us at the Preview evening on Thursday 20th Feb. 6-8pm. Complimentary glass of wine on arrival
