Owners June and Colin Garner are pleased to be supporting the Yorkshire Arboretum by opening their garden of approximately 2 acres. Originally part of the Sand Hutton Hall estate owned by the Walker family, remnants of the original garden such as the Walled Garden from the 1820’s are still standing. The garden is of contemporary design with no specific theme other than a multitude of trees, conifers including topiary yew, herbaceous perennials, roses and rhododendrons and azaleas all connected by ponds, streams and waterfalls. Highlights include a small arboretum with many specimens (gingko, cherries, betulas and dogwoods), a 30m long herbaceous border, a Japanese gravel garden and within the Walled Garden raised vegetable beds, soft fruit and cordon apple trees and a grass meadow where sheep gently graze.
